1. What behaviors are researchers observing?

Solution: The researchers intended to study the use of cell phones on attention decrease while driving. They want to focus on the interference of cell phone on the hand use while driving to attend the phone and reduction in attention while conversing on cell phone while driving.

2. How are the observations being recorded?

Solution: Observation were recorded using experiment method were 48 subjects were divided into three groups. First group were assigned for the task to study hand use effect on attention and were provided with hand held cell phones. The second group were assigned for the study of effect of conversation on attention and were provided with hands free sets. Both first and second group were experiment groups. The third group was the control group that wasn't provided within any set buy who were assigned to listen to the radio broadcast of their choice. This experiment was carried out on a computer stimulated driving task.

Solution: The researchers identified the use of cell phone and it's interference in the span of attention as the cause for decrease in attention behavior.

Solution : The results of the experiment proved that cell phone interfered in driving and decreased attention.The data obtained from both the experiment groups when compared to the control group indicates this attention deficit, as the subjects of control group made less errors for pressing the brake button and the reaction time was lesser when compared to the experiment groups. Both the experiment groups had equal number of data for missing the brake button on the flash of red light while attending the cell phone.

Solution: The hypothesis would have been falsified if there were no significant difference in reaction time to hit the brake button and the number of misses were same and less for all the three groups of the experiment.

This study qualifies the basic research because it was carried out in a scientific method fulfilling all the criteria necessary to be called it as scientific research.

The results of this research can be used to make aware the public about harmful effects of attending cell phone calls while driving to prevent accidents and casualities.
