Why is that a good way to understand how our senses operate? 2. What does it mean to say that we see, hear, taste and smell with our brains?

Explanation / Answer

The ways we understand and perceive the world around us as humans are known as senses. Sensory inputs are somehow converted into perceptions of desks and computers, flowers and buildings, cars and planes; into sights, sounds, smells, taste and touch experiences. Richard Gregory proposed that perception involves a lot of hypothesis testing to make sense of the information presented to the sense organs. Our perceptions of the world are hypotheses based on past experiences and stored information. Sensory receptors receive information from the environment, which is then combined with previously stored information about the world which we have built up as a result of experience. We feel, see, hear, taste, and smell with our brain, which can sense even without functioning senses.People tend to overlook a pain's duration. Instead, people seem to record the pain's peak moment and how much pain they felt at the end. When feeling empathy for another's pain, a person's own brain activity may partly mirror that of the other's brain in pain. Our perception of pain is a biopsychosocial phenomenon;believing becomes reality as the mind unites with the body.
