Explanation / Answer

there are receptors in many parts of our body called-adrenergic receptors.
they are of three types.-1,-2,-3. in the heart the predominant receptor is -1. usually adrenaline binds to these receptors and increases theheart rate and blood pressure. the beta blockers given compete for these receptors andprevent the binding of adrenaline. thus they reduce the abnormal heart rate and high bloodpressure. in asthmatics this drug is prohibited. in asthmatics the bronchioles are constricted and they take abronchodilator to dilate the bronchioles. this bronchodilator binds to the  -2adrenergic   receptors and bronchodilation occurs. when the blockers bind to these receptors they inhibit the relaxation of the bronchioles and bronchoconstrictionoccurs. this is why beta blockers are not given toasthmatics.
