There are 4 breeds of skunks in the world, so Alaina gets 6 male skunks and 10 female skunks of each breed. Then of the 16 skunks for each breed Alaina randomly picks 8 to be sedated and then injected with garlic, and 8 to be sedated and then injected with onions. When the skunk wakes up she puts each one in a separate enclosure with a monkey, and times how long it takes before the skunk sprays. 5. as we are only monitoring the health and are not performing any kind of statistical tests to conclude the findings , this would be a case of observational study

lurking variable is a third variable in the background that is responsible for the observed relationship

Income : It is possible that there is a stark difference inthe income of larks and owls , where owls have earned more than larks and hence are mentally better satisfied , indirectly contributing to the good health of the owls

another lurking variable in this case could be the environment in which the 1200 people lived. If the living environment doesnt offer any hardship , or is more convinient for people for owls then the inference might not be correct
