Question
Based on the information in the completed Anova
how do I get the x-mean and (x-mean)^2 for the observation section and find the SST?
Group 1 x mean (x-meanl Group 2 xmean (x-mean) Group 3 x-mean (x-meanl Sum: 14 8 Mean: 10 Sum of Squares Within: 14 Total Sum of Squares: Sum of Squares Within: Sum of Squares Between: Observation x-mean 0.6667 0.444444 14 14 Degrees of Freedom (total df between groups (k-1) df within groups (total-between) Mean Square Between {55B/df between) Mean Square Within (SSW/df within) #DIV/0' #DIV/0! 29 Sum: 140 SST: 30 Mean: 9.33333333Explanation / Answer
When finding the SST we need to first take each observation and subtract it from the overall mean.
The overall mean is the average of the means. You have M1 = 7, M2 = 8 and M3 = 65/5 = 13
Therefore overall mean = (7 + 8 + 13)/3 = 28/3 = 9.33
Or you can also add all the observations and divide by the total number of observations = 140/15 = 9.33
Once you get the value of x - mean , square the value and you get (x - mean)2. (0.667)2 = 0.444
The table below gives the complete calculation.
Your SST = 221.333
Hope this helps
