Question
Given the following hypotheses, level of significance and degrees of freedom, determine the t statistic and chi-square critical values.
H0 HA test critical value(s)
a) = 31 31 .02 single mean, t-test, 45 scores ______________
b) 1 = m2 1 < m2 .01 independent t-test; n1=11, n2=26, ______________
c) chi-square .01 goodness-of-fit test; 8 cells, ______________
Explanation / Answer
Given the following hypotheses, level of significance and degrees of freedom, determine the t statistic and chi-square critical values.
a) H0 : mu = 31 vs H1 : mu not= 31
where mu is population mean
Assume alpha = level of significance = 0.02
n = 45
df = n-1 = 45-1 = 44
By using statistical table,
Critical value = 2.423
b) H0 : mu1 = m2 Vs H1 : mu1 < m2
alpha = level of significance = 0.01
n1 = 11, n2 = 26
Here df = n1+n2-2 = 11+26-2 = 35
critical value = 2.457
c) Chi - square test
alpha = 0.01
Number of cells = 8
df = 8-1 = 7
Critical value = 18.48
