Question
Part A Block B rests upon a smooth surface. If the coefficients of static and kinetic friction between A and B are - 0.4 and H 0.3, respectively, determine the acceleration of each block if P 8 lb. (Figure 1) Determine the acceleration of the block A Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units = 3.68 ft Correct Part B Figure 1 of 1 Determine the acceleration of the block B Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units. 20 lb aB = 1.12 50 lb Submit uest AnswerExplanation / Answer
a)
Let impending motion does not happed between the two blocks:
So, both bodies move with same acceleration:
So, P = (m1 + m2)*a
So, 8 = ((20 + 50)/32)*a
So, a = 3.68 ft/s2
So, friction between them = 3.66*(50/32) = 5.7 lb
So, now acceleration of mass A = (8 - 5.7)/(20/32) = 3.68 ft/s2 <----------- answer
As both move with same acceleration, so mass B will also move with 3.68 ft/s2 <--------- answer
