Here we are interested to test

H0: Age group and social networking sites are independent of each other ag.

H1 : They are not independent.

Now we carry out the chi-square test for independence.

We see that for age group 2-17 and site C and for age group 65+ and site B the frequency is less than 5 which is the minimum frequency required to be able to carry out a chi-square test.

Thus we merge the first two and last two age group and obtain a 2x3 contingency table as follows:

The Pearson's Chi square statistic is given as: 6.07 with 2 d.f.

The p-value of the test is 0.048(<0.05). Thus we reject H0 at 5% l.o.s. and conclude that age group and social networking sites are independent of one another.
