Question

3.8.3 is my question. Thank you

Complete an analysis similar to that of Example 3.4.2 for the classroom behavior data of Example 3.0.1. Complete an analysis similar to that of Example 3.4.2 for the auto accident data of Example 3.2.4. Radelet (1981) gives data on the relationship between race and the imposition of the death penalty. The data are given in Table 3.2. Analyze the data. The data on graduate admissions at Berkeley given in Exercise 2.6.1 was actually collapsed over the six largest departments within the university. The possibility exists that the data may display Simpson's paradox. The full data are given in Table 3.3. Analyze the three-dimensional table and comment on Simpson's paradox relative to these data.

Explanation / Answer

In question 3.8.3 we have given data set of victims race and death penalty to respective defendants race. we arranged the given data in following format

since victim race black and get him death penalty with respective to race of defendant race. that is first entry of first row in above table is obtained such that 6 + 0 = 6 and second entry of first row is obtained such that 97 + 9 = 106. In simillar fashion 11 + 19 = 30 and 52 + 132 = 184.

In above case we test whether the death penalty is independent or not on victim race, and for such test we use chi-square independence test.

In similar fashion original data we can also modify for testing the death penalty is independent or not on defendent race.

since first entry of first row is obtained such that 6 + 11 = 17, and second entry of first row is obtained such that ,

97 + 52 = 149. In simillar fashion 0+ 19 = 19 and 9 + 132 = 141.
