Question

A Life Sciences study survey of small Population was conducted to examine the difference between older and younger adults on their contentment with their life. A pilot experiment was conducted in Chicago to examine this hypothesis. Eight older adults (over the age of 75) and eight younger adults (between 25 and 35) were give a life satisfaction test (known to have high reliability and validity). Scores on the measure range from 0 to 100 with high scores indicative of high life satisfaction; low scores indicative of low life satisfaction at confidence levels of 95%. The data are presented below. Compute the appropriate t-test. What is your computed answer (observed value of t) and df? What would be the null and alternative hypothesis in this study? What is your t_crit? Conclude your answer. if you have made an error, would it be a Type I or a Type II error? Explain your answer in 2-3 lines.

Explanation / Answer

the p-value is less than significance level and t-stat is less than t-critical value ,we reject the null hypotheis and conclude the mean of both groups differ.
