Question

A researcher wishes to try three different techniques to lower the blood pressure of individuals diagnosed with high blood pressure. The subjects are randomly assigned to three group; the first group takes medication, the second group exercises, and the third group follows a special diet. After four weeks, the reduction in each person's blood pressure is recorded. The data are shown here: a. What are the null and alternative hypotheses? b. What is the p-value? c. Can the researcher conclude that there is a difference in the treatment methods? Use an alpha-level of 0.05.

Explanation / Answer

a) null hypothesis: all group have equal means

alternate hypothesis: at least two groups have different means

b )

from above p value =0.0038

c) as p value is less then 0.05 level we reject null hypothesis that all mean are equal.

And conclude that there is difference among at least 2 of the groups
