Question

Based on MTF data, we present the cross-tabulation for student race and how many of their friends smoke marijuana.

a. Using Figure 10.16 on pp 344, Identify the dependent and independent variables for the table. (The table above is the table on p. 344)

DV first; IV second

A) FRWEED; RACE

B) RACE; FRWEED

Both race (RACE) a friends smoking marijuana (FRWEED) are independent variables

There are no dependent or independent variables in the table

Based on MTF data, we present the cross-tabulation for student race and how many of their friends smoke marijuana.

Explanation / Answer

This table doesnt correspond to the data given in the picture. Both are different.

However , for the distribution based questions , the group variables are considered as independent variables and the value under measurement is considered dependent

Hence assuming that RACE and SMOKING MARIJUANA represents number of people falling under such categories , hence both the variables are can be considered as independent variables

the values(such as count, average, total etc ) present in the crosstab of these 2 variables would be the dependent variable.
