Question
1. * The human genome contains approximately 20,000 protein-coding genes, yet it has the capacity to produce several hundred thousand gene products. What can account for the vast difference in gene number and product number? Explain. 2. "For microarray analysis, cDNA is used to determine levels of gene expression. a. Explain the difference between cDNA and genomic DNA b. Explain how a microarray is used to evaluate gene expression levels. en generating genetically modified mice using homologous recombination, chimeric mice are often generated. Explain what chimerism is and why this occurs in this process.Explanation / Answer
According to the Chegg guidelines I'll answer the first question when more than one question is posted. Post them separately to get the answers.
1) When the DNA is replicated and mrna is formed it has introns and exons and when mrna is matured, it is spliced and introns are removed and different exons are joined together and then it is then translated to protein. The reason number of genes code more protein than their number is the alternative splicing and in alternative splicing the combinatios of exons joined together is different and because of that different proteins can be formed.
