Out of a total of 8500, 5180 do not receive any premium channel. So, (8500 - 5180) = 3320 only receive Channel A or Channel B or both A and B. Let the number of people who receive both A and B be x. Then (2400 - x) receive Channel A only, (1980 - x) receive Channel B only. i.e., {(2400 - x) + (1980 - x)} = (4380 - 2x) receive only one channel. So, out of 3320 who receive Channel A or Channel B or both A and B. (4380 - 2x) receive only one channel and hence, 3320 - (4380 - 2x) = (2x - 1060) receive both A and B. This must be then equal to x. i.e., 2x - 1060 = x or x = 1060 ANSWER
Alternatively, using set theory concepts, (A B) (AC BC) = U (universal set). Inserting the given values,
(A B) = 8500 - 5180 = 3320. Again, (A B) = A + B - both A and B. Or, 3320 = 2400 + 1980 - both A and B Or, both A and B = 4380 - 3320 = 1060. DONE AGAIN
