Question

1- Suppose you flip a fair well balanced coin. List all possible outcomes. What are chances to get a head? Explain.

2- Suppose that you will flip a fair coin twice. List all possible outcomes. What is the chance to get two heads? What is the chance to get at least 1 head?

3- Find a quarter, flip it 20 times and record outcomes. Suppose now you will flip your coin one more time. How likely you will get a head? Suppose you had all 20 heads out of 20 flips. How likely you will get a head on your next flip?

Explanation / Answer

Possible outcomes are {heads, Tails} i.e {H,T}

chances to get a head is 1/2 or 50%

Possible outcomes are {HH,TT,HT,TH}

chances to get two head is 1/4

chance to get atleast one head is = chance of getting one head or chance of getting two heads

= 2/4 +1/4 = 3/4

a quarter if you flip it 20 times and record outcomes and if you will flip your coin one more time the chance that you get a head in this trial is also 1/2

if you had 20 heads on 20 flips still the chance of getting a head on next flip is 1/2
