Question
Spleen cells were treated with optimal amounts of Magnetically labeled antibodies specific for the CD4 and the T Cell Receptor, TCR, markers. The following results were obtained:
G.1. Treatment with anti CD4 antibody results in 34% sorting of spleen cells
G.2. Treatment with anti TCR antibody results in 50% sorting of spleen cells
G.3. Treatment with anti CD4 and anti TCR antibodies results in 50% sorting of spleen cells
Estimate the percentage of cells that they either solely express or co-express these two CD4 and TCR cell surface markers Briefly explain how you arrived to your concussions.
Explanation / Answer
P(A B) = P(A) + P(B) P(A B)
P(A)= 0.34 (treatment with anti cd4)
P(B)=0.50(treatment with TCR)
P(A B)=0.50(TREATMENT WITH WBOTH CD4 AND TCR)
P(A B)=0.34+0.50-0.50=0.34
Therefore the percentage of cells eithersolely or co-expressed with cd4 and tcr is =0.34*100=34%
