Question

Use the definition of the P-value to explain the following. (a) Explain why Ho would be rejected if P-value - 0.0001. A P-value of 0.0001 means that it is very unlkely (probablity- assuming that Ho is ruethat you would get a sample result at least as inconsistent with Ho as the one obtained in the study. Thus Ho is rojecled (b) Explain why Ho would not be rejected if p-value o.340. A P-value of 0.340 means that it itlary unlikelyprobability assuming that Ho is ruethat you would get a sample result at least as inconsistent with Ho as the one obtained in the study. Explanation / Answer

The P-value is used to determine the "likeliness " or "unlikeliness " by determining the probability. Assuming the null hypothesis were true of observing a more extreme test statistic in the direction of the alternative hypothesis that the one observed. If the P-value is small, say less than (or equal to) ?, then it is "unlikely." And, if the P-value is large, say more than ?, then it is "likely."
0.0001 p-value means there is there is 0.01% chance of the thing happening that is out of 10000 trials there will only be one success in the experiment, hence Ho is rejected
whereas in the second case there is a 34% chance for success.
Generally, we reject the null hypothesis when the p-value is less than 0.05 or 5%.
