Question
Use the data in the table for time and concentration. (Note: Most of the work in this first part will be submitted with your lab report not as part of this question.) Table: Time versus Concentration Data Time (min) Concentration (M) 8 14 27 43 52 64 72 83 91 0.0965 0.0868 0.0803 0.0673 0.0540 0.0473 0.0407 0.0364 0.0315 0.0282 Copy the data from the table into the spreadsheet provided. Follow the instructions given in the spreadsheet. Is the graph of the time versus concentration linear or non-linear? linear non-linear E Questions Input a best-fit line and line equation into your graph and use the equation to answer the following questions. (Use the values from the equation rounded to five significant figures. Enter your answers to three significant figures.) What would the concentration of the solution be after 47 seconds? What would the concentration of the solution be after 3 days? At what time is the concentration 0.0400 M? minExplanation / Answer
1) the graph is linear, hence slope is constant.
slope = (m2-m1)/(t2-t1) where m2,m1 are concentrations at t2 and t1 respectively.
slope = -97/80000
therefore, at 47 seconds -
(m-m1)/(47-t1) = -97/80000
taking m1 as 0.0540 and t1 as 43, we get the value of m as 0.051022
2) the concentration will be 0. the concentration will become 0 at some point during the reaction, then it will stay 0 as concentration cannot be negative.
3) using the above value of slope -
and taking m1 as 0.0407 and t1 as 64
(t-64)/(0.0400-0.0407 ) = (72-64)/(0.0364-0.0407)
solving this equation, we get the values of t as 65.302 seconds
