Analysis of variance with unequal sample sizes AaAa Mental health professionals often use structured interviews when diagnosing patients. A director of a mental health dlinic would like to compare the effectiveness of three different diagnostic interviews in diagnosing schizophrenia: the Diagnostic Interview Schedule (DIS), which was specifically developed for use by lay interviewers; the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia (SADS); and the Structural Clinical Interview for DSM Disorders (SCID), which is the gold standard for a psychiatric diagnosis by a trained dlinician. The clinic director performs an experiment in which 12 dinical psychology interns are randomly assigned to three groups: the first consisting of 3 intems, the second 4 interns, and the third 5 interns. Interns in the first group are trained to diagnose patients using DIS, interns in the second group are trained to diegnose patients using SADS, and interns in the third group are trained to diagnose patients using SCID. After training, each intern's diagnostic accuracy is recorded using a seven-point scale. Th e data and means for the diagnostic accuracy scores for each of the three groups are presented in the table below Diagnostic Interviews Group 1 Group 2 Group 3 DIS 5.26 4.82 4.63 SADS 5.28 5.13 5.52 5.49 sCTD 5.40 S.32 4.81 4.92 5.08 ¢ 2 3 4 5 6Explanation / Answer

It is seen from the table of descriptive statistics that highest mean score of group SADS is 5.3550 and lowest mean score of group DIS is 4.9033. But from ANOVA table it is seen that P value = 0.110 > 0.01 and hence mean score in three groups dose not differ significantly. It can be treated as all the 12 patients even though have diagnosed by three different methods but they produce nearby same results.
