Question
This is a modification of the original problem. Dr. Williams decides after 30 years of teaching to become a beef cattle farmer. He that he will need to allot at least one/fourth acre to support the grazing of each head of cattle. He selects a breed of cattle and a grain feed that will prepare the cattle for market in 2 years. If Dr. Williams starts his herd with 20 calves on 25 of his acres and increases his herd every 6 months by 40% after selling the full term cattle, how many cattle will he sell at the end of two years and how many cattle does he buy after that sale? Round all intermediary calculations.Explanation / Answer
points to be noted :
cattle is sold when they are fully grown .
cattle will take 2 years to grow up fully.
he increases his cattle every 6 months by 40% after selling the full term cattle,
now,
a) how many cattle will he sell at the end of 2 years .
he will sell 20 cattle because he started with 20 calves which take 2 years to fully grow.(he increases his cattle only after selling the full term cattle. in the 2 years he didnot sell any cattle.so he wont increase the herd.so he will have the 20 cattle with which he started)
b) how many cattle does he buy after that sale?
he will increase the cattle by 40%. therefore, 20*140/100=20*1.4=28 cattle
