Question

1. What does this mean the engineers needed to do to in order to get San Juan River water to the Chama River, what about the Continental Divide standing in between, separating river flows from one another?

2. Approximately how many people does this engineering feat serve, how many use the San Juan Chama water?

3. Has ABCWUA done the bare minimum or better regarding water quality with their treatment processes & steps involved?  Please describe in detail some of the environmental-type measures that have taken place?

4. Using a percentage How much from the aquifer…beneath the city of Albuquerque & surrounding outskirts?

Explanation / Answer

1) Now we know that there is a great continental divide went throught the North america. this continental divide is nothing but the mountain range which divid the drainage basin. hence the water originates on the right side this mountain run toward west side finally meet to the pacific ocean and the water originates on left side of this mountain run the water from west to east finally meet to the atlantic ocean. when the water enter from rio blanco to navajo river and then flow toward south, it meets to this continental divide. but we need this water to join Rio grande river is at other side of this mountain hence engineer made this tunnels through this mountain.

2) see this water is taken from the drainage basin of San Juan and then it is transferred to Rio Grande. about 75% water is used for public and industry and remaining is used for irrigation around Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

3) Yes , ABCWUA has done the water quality with their treatment processes and steps involved.

any water is not used for drinking purposes until it holds the safe drinking water act.

the treatment is given with step by step

1) The water from the river is send to coagulation so that all the particles within the river water will destroy.

2) ozone treatment is done so that all the bacteria and viruses kill.

3) filtration is last treatment where all the microparticles removed by multistage filtration then granular activated carbon is used to remove the taste and odor from the water

4) the water now stored into the water storage and later on it is distributed to public.

Now what are the environmental type measure are taken for better water quality,

Environmental protection agency has made some rules which limit the amount of contaminants should present into the water.

the contaminants are the different elements which present into the water, if exceed their limit can cause harmful effects to the public health. the contaminants like mercury, fluoride, chromium, beryllium etc.

the maximum contaminant level is the maximum amount of constituent in the water which is used in public for drinking purpose. if it is exceed then this is violation of standards of Environmental protection agency,

the standards are divided into two., the primary and secondary

primary standard means the some contaminants are having limit to their amount

secondary standard means the some contaminants are not having any limit and mainly use for taste and odor.

the other measures are also taken like regular minnow egg monitoration, differnt fish study, removing non-native trees , hydrogeology studies, educating the public on water quality, (acoording to environmental impact study, no bird should harmed, follow EPA standards, no air emission, follow reservoir water storage limit etc.

4) not sure but aquifer beneath alburbuque and surrounding covers 25% need and 75% need is covered through the above project.
