Explanation / Answer

Part c is a little bit different. We are looking for theprobability that the tool conforms to both roundness requirementsAND surface finish requirements, and adding that to the probabilityof selecting a shaft from tool 2. The probability of selectinga tool that conforms to both roundness requirements and surfacefinish requirements is (200 + 145) / 370. 200 is the number ofshafts from the tool 1 group that meet both requirements, and 145is the number of shafts from the tool 2 group that meet bothrequirements. Then, the probability of selecting a tool thatmeets both requirements is 345/370. Now we have to find theprobability of selecting a shaft from tool 2, but we have to makesure to take into account that we have already counted 145 of theshafts from the tool 2 group in the first calculation. Theprobability, then, is (4 + 6 + 8) / 370 = 18/370. The totalprobability for part c is then the two probabilities we havecalculated added together: (345 + 18) / 370 = 363/370 =.981081.
