Question

hi In an experiment i have worked out the radius of curvature fora +0.25D lens to be 892mm using newtons rings. the radius ofcurvature for a +0.25D lens is approx 2 metres. does thismean i have to double the value i got to take into account the 2surfaces of the lens, or not? please help as i am realyconfused thanks :) hi In an experiment i have worked out the radius of curvature fora +0.25D lens to be 892mm using newtons rings. the radius ofcurvature for a +0.25D lens is approx 2 metres. does thismean i have to double the value i got to take into account the 2surfaces of the lens, or not? please help as i am realyconfused thanks :)

Explanation / Answer

If the lens isEqui-Convex (that is, having 2 equal convex surfaces), an optical power of +0.25 Diopter would require each surface to have Radius of Curvature of approx 4.0 meters. Thus, the calculated Newton Rings value of (0.892 m) appears problematic. .
