Question

The results of a study on powered wheelchair driving performance were presented in the Proceedings of the IEEE 24th Annual Northeast Bioengineering Conference (1998, p. 130). In this study, the effects of two types of joysticks, force sensing (FSJ) and position sensing (PSJ), on power wheelchair control were investigated. Each of 10 subjects was asked to test both joysticks. One response of interest is the time (in seconds) to complete a predetermined course. Data typical of this type of experiment are as follows: Find a 95% confidence interval on the difference in mean completion times . Is there any indication that one joystick is preferable?

Explanation / Answer

Add up all of the resulting squares.

Divide your result by 9 (n-1).

Then take the square root of the resulting number, that is theSD.

What type of test would you do next?

INdependent 2 sample t test

This test is only used when both sample sizesare equaland that the two distributions have the same variance.
