Question

part A and B show all work please Gary borrowed a total of $10,000. Part of the money was borrowed form a Credit Union that charged 5.5% simple interest. The remainder was borrowed from a friend to whom Gary paid 2.5% simple interest. Gary paid his friend back after 1 year and paid the Credit Union back after 2 years. If the total amount Gary paid in interest was $717.50, how much did Gary borrow from each source? Given f(x) = x^2 - 2x + 5 and g(x) = 2x + 3, find (f g)(x) and (g f)(x). Label clearly, Simplify.

Explanation / Answer

1) Let Garry borrow x fromcedit union and 10,000-x from friend.

Friend ---2.5% , 1 year ; Credit Union ---- 5.5% , 2year

Now Simple Interest = P*R*T/100

SI1 =x*5.5*2/100 = 11x/100 =0.11x

SI2 = (10000-x)2.5*1/100 = 250 -0.025x

Total interest paid = 717.5 = 250 -0.025x +0.11x

0.085x = 467.5

x= $5500 ( Credit Union); 10000-5500 = $4500( Friend)

2) f(x) = x^2 -2x +5 and g(x) =2x +3

fog(x) = (2x+3)^2 -2(2x+3) +5= 4x^2 +9 +12x -4x -6+5

= 4x^2+8x+8

gof(x) = 2(x^2-2x+5) +3 = 2x^2 -4x +10 +3 = 2x^2 -4x +13
