Question

A black oil reservoir liqid sample anaysed in a laboratory cell at reservoir temperature and bubble-point pressure had a volume of 227cc (cc= cubic centimetre). The liqiud was expelled through laboratory equipment which is the equivalent of the field separator- stock tank system. The oil volumecollected in the stock tank was 167.4cc. The separator produced 0.537scf of gas, and the stock tank produced 0.059scf of gas. Calculate: (1) the formation volume factor of the oil; (2) the solution gas-oil ratio.

Explanation / Answer

1) Oil volume factor = Volume of reservoir oil / Volume of oil at surface = 227/167.4 = 1.36 (Ans:)

2) The separator produced 0.537scf of gas, and the stock tank produced 0.059scf of gas.

The solution gas = 0.537 + 0.059 = 0.596 scf = 0.596 * 30.483 = 16876.84 cc

The solution gas oil ratio is the amount of gas dissolved in the oil (or water) at any pressure.

The solution gas-oil ratio = gas volume / oil volume = 16876.84 / 227 = 74.35 (Ans:)
