Service department costs are allocated by the direct method. The number of employees is used as the allocation base for all service department costs

Explanation / Answer

Here the Service Department has three departments namely S1, S2 and S3

Total Budgeted Cost = $3,240,000 + $2,260,000 + 1,000,000 = $6,500,000

Total Number of Employees = P1+P2 = 150+225 = 375

Service Department cost Allocation to P1 by direct method = S1*(P1/P1+P2) + S2*(P1/P1+P2) + S3* (P1/P1+P2)

= $3,240,000*150/375 + $2,260,000* 150/375 + $1,000,000 * 150/375

= 1,296,000 + 904,000 + 400,000 = $ 2,600,000

Hence total Service cost allocated to P1 is $2,600,000 (Answer)
