Examples Disagreement with another team member's Type of Conflict Relationship political views, religion, sexual orientation, or gender, racial, ethnic, or personality characteristics; disagreement with another team member based on experiences outside of the team Task Disagreement over appropriate therapy, team tasks, and goals Process Disagreement over team processes, such as decision making; disagreement over how tasks or goals should be accomplished

Explanation / Answer

1. An example of a type of conflict encountered when being a part of the team is that there was basically a difference of opinion with regards to the type of therapy which should be provided to a patient who was having trouble with the prostrate. While I was of the view that we should opt for the medicinal method that includes administering medicines and injections. Some of my colleagues were of the view that surgery was better option.

So this was essentially a task based conflict.

2.

The team conflict was resolved when we decided to have further extensive investigations done to find the root cause and the extent of complications. Thus it was a kind of a compromise for both sides.

3.

It would be interesting to try out the method of collaboration to resolve conflict in healthcare teams going forward. This would ensure that we have the best ideas with all minds working together.

4.

I would tend to fully agree with the statement: “Unfortunately, sponsorship is often undeveloped or even unrecognized in clinical settings, especially among clinicians who are functioning in a hierarchy but prefer to think that they are not.”

The reason for my agreement is that in medical teams, it is often the senior most doctor who becomes the natural leader and entire team follows his orders and acts accordingly. There is actually no role for the advisor or the sponsor to step in and oversee the activity of the team.
