Question
During a severe storm, a tree falls on the roof of Jill’s home causing a large hole. Jill discovers the hole immediately but does nothing. The storm continues to rain on Jill’s house for the next three days and the rain causes additional damage to the interior of Jill’s house. Jill did not take any steps to cover the hole in her roof and the rain causes extensive damage to her walls and floors. Will the insurance company pay for the damage to Jill’s roof and/or also the interior rain damage? Why?
Explanation / Answer
Answer-
When Jill call Jill insurance agent to get a claim started, Jill may be wondering if Jill insurance policy will cover Jill roof leak. Jill policy may cover the water damage or cost to replace the roof. Jill insurance agent will send someone to assess the damage and get the claim process started.
In many cases, roof repairs are covered by insurance. If there’s a wind storm that comes through and blows some shingles off or if a heavy snow storm damages Jill roof, insurance will likely cover the cost. If the damage was caused by an unavoidable event, Jill usually covered. Jill won’t be covered if damage is a result of neglect. If Jill’ve neglected to perform proper roof maintenance or if the damage could have been avoided with more care from the home owner, chances are Jill’re not covered by insurance.
