Question

I’m doing a lab write up for biology and there’s 2 questions I’m having trouble with:
1) list the plant structures and different forces involved in transpiration
2) if a plants stomata are made to stay open at all times, or closed at all times, it will die. Explain why. I’m doing a lab write up for biology and there’s 2 questions I’m having trouble with:

Explanation / Answer

1.

Structures involved in transpiration:

i. Stomata

ii. Vasculature

Forces involved in transpiration:

i. Low water potential in leaves

ii. Root pressure

iii. External temperature, wind speed, and the atmospheric pressure

A plant can regulate the movement of stomata depending upon its requirements. Stomata remain open when the plant performs the gaseous exchange. The stomat remains closed when excess water is lost through transpiration.

If the stomata is closed all the time, the plant can not perform respiration or photosynthesis.

If the stomata is open all the time, the plant looses water all the time.

Both these will cause the death of plants.
