Question
A 4.20-g lead bullet traveling at 580 m/s is stopped by a large tree. If half the kinetic energy of the bullet is transformed into internal energy and remains with the bullet while the other half is transmitted to the tree, what is the increase in temperature of the bullet? degreeC Lead pellets, each of mass 1.10g, are heated to 200degreeC. How many pellets must be added to 451 g of water that is initially at 20.0degreeC to make the equilibrium temperature 25.0degreeC? Neglect any energy transfer to or from the container. pellets A 1.04-g cube of ice at 0degreeC is dropped into 1.0 kg of water that was originally at 72degreeC. What is the final temperature of the water after the ice has melted?Explanation / Answer

Here is the answer of 1st question
specific heat capacity of lead ,C = 0.128 J/g-oC
Total kinetic energy of bullet = 0.5*m*v^2
= 0.5*(4.2*10^-3 Kg) * (580 m/s)^2
= 706.44 J
energy converted to internal energy of bullet = 706.44 J /2 = 353.22 J
use:
E = m*C*delta T
353.22 J = 4.2 g * 0.128 J/g-oC * delta T
delta T = 657 oC
Answer: 657 oC
