However, the company faces the challenge of needing to install the new and expensive credit card terminals in 112 low-volume stores that cannot absorb the cost. Brief Description of the Problem:
The investment in new credit card terminal is not justified considering the low volume sales of the 112 stores.
Alternative options to address the problem:
1. It is stated that credit card terminals need not be of same configurations/specifications acros the stores. We can install low cost credit card terminals in these stores so that the recurring costs of their maintenance would be kept minimum.
2. To enter into a tieups with credit card terminal providers and agree for payment of commission as a % of monthly sales made in these low volume stores. By this way, margins are pulled down a bit and this would not warrant high upfront investments
3. We can chose to charge low value purchasers x% of purchase value as convenience charges
4. To negotiate with credit card terminal suppliers for all the 468 stores factoring the total sales volume and get a discounted price for low value shops. High turnover shops can take higher share of the credit card systems.
