Question

This week you will discuss another situation that might be difficult for a Medical Office Manager to handle in the clinic. There will no doubt be many different approaches, and you will decide as a group which ones might be the best choices! How do you handle this? The physician is reviewing a patient record and leaves it open on the appointment scheduling desk where other patients can see it. This has happened before The last time this happened you informed this physician that this behavior was a violation of HIPAA requirements, but the physician got agitated and told you not to correct him again. What do you do?

Explanation / Answer

The confidentiality of the patients information should be maintained and this is an offense that physician is not concerned about his patient's confidentiality. So, as I have given him warning before and after even giving it for second time if still he is ignoring then I would further make complaint against the physician because patients records can not be seen by other unless you have the consent of the patients. So, I will take further actions against the doctor and make him realize that what he's doing might lead to cancellation of his medical licence as well.
