Question
Two blocks are connected over a massless, frictionless pulley as shown in the figure below. The mass of block 2 is 11.7 kg, and the coefficient of kinetic friction between block 2 and the incline is 0.200. The angle ? of the incline is 25.5
Two blocks are connected over a massless, frictionless pulley as shown in the figure below. The mass of block 2 is 11.7 kg, and the coefficient of kinetic friction between block 2 and the incline is 0.200. The angle ? of the incline is 25.5degree. If block 2 is moving up the incline at constant speed, what is the mass of block 1?Explanation / Answer
since block 2 is moving up the incline that means all the force on it are balanced
hence
we have
T = 0.2*mg cos(25.5 )+ mgsin(25.5) = 71.49 newton
since block 2 is moving with constant velocity block 1 must also move with constant velocity
hence force on block 1 should be balanced
hence we have
T = M1 * g
hence M1 = 7.149 kg
