Question
PLEASE ANSWER ALL THE QUESTOINS
A rectangular loop of wire (ah= 0.10 m. bc= 0.20 m) carries a current of 5.0 A in the direction shown. The loop is oriented in a uniform magnetic field of 1.5 T in the x-direction. If the angle theta=30 degree . What is the magnetic force (vector) acting on the 0.10-m side of the loop (ab) due to magnetic field? What is the magnetic force(vector) acting on the wire at the top side of the lope (be) due to magnetic field? What is the magnetic dipole moment mu of the loop (in unit vector notation)? What is the torque on the loop? What is the potential energy of the system?Explanation / Answer
a) Magnetic force = i.(l x b) = 5.(1.5*0.1) = 0.75 (-z direction)
b) Magnetic force = i.(l x b) = 5.(1.5*0.2) = 1.5*sin(30) = 0.75 (j direction)
c) magnetic dipole moment of the coil is p = I*A = 5*(0.1*0.2) = 0.1cos(60) in x direction +0.1 sin(60) in -z direction
=0.05.sqrt(3) (x direction) + 0.05 (-z direction)
d) Torque on loop is (p * B) = 0.05 * 0.75*sin(60) = 0.0375*sqrt(3)/2 = 0.032475 N.m
e) Potential energy = 2(p.B) = 2* 0.05 *0.75 cos(60) = 0.0375 J
