Question

a.      What is the position of the object at t = 2 s?

b.      What is the position of the object at t = 6 s?

a.      What is the total displacement between t = 3 s and t = 8 s?

Please show exact steps to solve. I already have the answer's so please do not post just the answers. Thank you

For the velocity-versus-time graph given below, assume the same scaling of the time axis as above (1 s per tick). The graph represents the velocity of an object that is located at the position x = -1 m at t = 0 s. What is the position of the object at t = 2 s? What is the position of the object at t = 6 s? What is the total displacement between t = 3 s and t = 8 s?

Explanation / Answer

at t=2

x = -6*2 = -12 (distance = speed * time)........since constant velocity

B) at t=6

area under graph gives displacement

area upto (t=6 ) = -(1/2)*6*(5+2)+(1/2)*1*2 = -20

c) total displacement between t = 3 s and t = 8 s

again area under curve

area = -(1/2)*4*2 + (1/2)*3*6 = 5
