Question
Three identical conducting spheres are all initially neutral. After you place a charge of +8 uC on sphere 1, you briefly touch sphere 1 to sphere 2. Next you briefly touch sphere 2 to sphere 3. Finally, you touch sphere 3 to sphere 1. After this procedure, how much charge is on sphere 1?A. 8 uC
B. 5 uC
C. 4 uC
D. 3 uC
E. 2 uC
Can you please explain how to do this type of problem? Thank you!!
Explanation / Answer
MOST IMPORTANT:: if two bodies are touched they have to rearrange charges(or do something) so as to get equal potential energy .this in case of a sphere is possible if both have equal charges. so 8 charge on 1 touch 2 => both have charge of 4. touch 2 and 3 both have charge 2 touch 3 to 1 both hav charge otgether of 2+4 => 6 divided among themselves = 3micro columb
