Question
Three resistors, 23 ?, 57 ?, and R, are connected in parallel with a 12-V battery. The total current flowing through the battery is 0.904 A.(a) Find the value of resistance R.
R = ?
(b) Find the current through each resistor.
V(23 ?) A
V(57 ?) A
V(R ?) A
(c) If the total current of the battery had been greater than 0.904 A, would your answer to part (a) have been larger or smaller?
(d) Explain.
Explanation / Answer
a)V/Re = I Re= 1/(1/23 +1/57 + 1/R) V=12 I - 0.904 Solve for R. b) current thru 23 ohms i1 = 12/23 amps 57 ohms i2 = 12/57 R,(caclulated frm above gives 12/R) or u can test check ur answer by i3 = 0.904 -i1 - i2 c) well,Total current increases => i3 increases.. so i3= 12/R to increase i3, we must decrease R. hence Answer in A wud be smaller. (I am sorry,I dont have a caculator at present,Please dont mid to do the calculations yurself..thank yu! :) )
