Question
Three resistors are joined together across a 6 Volts battery (Cl8p79) Three resistors are joined together across a 6 Volts battery (see the figure). The voltage drop across resistor R_1 is 2.109 Volts, the current i_2 through resistor R_2 is 0.055 A, and the power dissipated in resistor R_3 is 0.149 W. What is the value of each resistor? R_1? R_1? What is the current through each resistor? i_1? What is the power dissipated in each resistor? P_1? Find the total resistance of the network. Find the current drawn from the battery. Find the total power used by the circuit.Explanation / Answer
a) Voltage drop across R2= 6-2.109 = 3.891 V
R2 = V2/I2= 3.891/ 0.055= 70.745 ohms apprx
b) P3 = V3^2 / R3
0.149 = 3.89^2 / R3
R3= 101.557 ohms .
I3= P3/ v3= 0.149/ 3.89 = 0.038 A
I1 = I2 + I3= 0.055 + 0.038 = 0.093 A
R1 = V1/I1= 2.109/ 0.093= 22.677 ohms apprx
