Question
1) A disk with a red (inner) and green (outer nlack attached to it is spinning at consatcnt angular acceleration. The disk has a radius of 10.0 cm anf a mass of 1.2 kg; the green black has a mass of 0.5 kg and is 8.0 cm from the center of the disk; the red disk has a mass od 0.8 kg and is 4.0 cm from the center of the disk.
A) Is there a net force on the green block?
B) Is there a net torque on the red block?
C) Is there a net torue on the disk?
D) Calculate the moment of inertia of the system (disk and blocks). Show work,
Explanation / Answer
1) yes there is a net force on green block...these are....the centripetal force given by mw^r and is towards the centre and tangential force given by mra where a is angular acceleration...
2)if a is the angular acceleration and I (=mr^2) is the moment of inertia of red block then net torque on it is given by T=Ia...so torque is present...
3)yes there is net torque on disc....its moment of inertia is I(=1/2MR^2)....so torque on disc is Ia.....
4)moment of inertia of disc=1/2MR^2=0.006
