Question
Okay so I figured out (a) and (b) for sure, but I really need help with (c) and (d).
88. You have two lenses, with focal lengths f1 = +2.60 cm and f2 = +20.4 cm.
(a) How would you arrange these lenses to form a magnified image of the Moon?
Answer: As a telescope with f(obj) = 20.4 cm and f(eyepiece) = 2.60 cm
(b) What is the maximum angular maginification these lenses could produce?
Answer: M = f(obj)/f(eyepiece) = 7.85
(c) How would you arrange these two lenses to form a magnified image of an insect?
-->I've seen different answers for this part. Some people say as a microscope with the same f(obj) and f(eyepiece) as part (a), but some people say a microscope with opposite f(obj) and f(eyepiece) as part (a). PLEASE HELP!
(d) If you use the magnifier of part (c) to view an insect, what is the angular magnification when the insect is held 2.90 cm from the objective lens?
--->No idea how to do this part, either.
THANK YOU! :)
Explanation / Answer
C. icroscope of fo = 2.6 cm and elyepiece of fe = 20.4cmD. u = 2.9 m;
v = u.fo/(u-fo) = 3.3805cm
m1 = v/u = 3.3805/2.9=1.1657
m2 = 1 + D/fe = 1 +25/20.4=2.225
Total M =m1xm2 = 2.225*1.1657 = 2.594253921568627
