1. the molecular structure of water is simple: one oxigen united to two hydrogens, these H have the ability to form hydrogen bonds and the triangular position of the molecule makes it reach other molecules easier. This gives water the property of being the universal solvent. This property makes every biochemical reaction inside a cell possible.
Another property is the surface tension, which is the result of water molecules attracting to each other with cohesion forces forming the illusion of a membrane outside the body of water. This property can be seen when an insect steps into water and doesn´t sink, it can actually walk in it because is not heavy enough to break the surface tension. This property also allows the cells to have structure.
Capillarity is the property of a liquid to move through very thin tubes or capillaries, this allows water for example to go up through capillaries of plants, allowing it to be green and grow and live. Water has high capillarity because of the same cohesion between water molecules and the adhesion which is the ability to stick to the walls of the capillar.
Water also has the property of conserving its temperature, this allows calorific reactions to happen in the body without changing or rising the temperature too much.
Carbon molecule has four conections or free electrons to share, so it can form molecule structures with other four atoms to form bigger molecules and a big variety of them giving life the possibility to have a wide spectrum of atomic possibilities. The structure it forms thanks to the four covalent bonds makes it very difficult to break. That is why a diamod (made almost exclusively of carbon atoms) is one of the hardest materials known.
