Question
A water-cooled, shell-and-tube freon condenser with in-tube condensation will be designed to satisfy the following specifications: Cooling load of the condenser: 125 kW Refrigerant: R-22 Condensing temperature: 37°C Coolant water: City water Inlet temperature: 18°C Outlet temperature: 26°C Mean pressure: 0.4 Mpa Heat transfer matrix: 3/4 in. OD, 20 BWG Brass tubes It is proposed that the following heat exchanger parameters are fixed: one tube pass with a shell diameter of 15.25 in. and pitch size is 1 in. with baffle spacing of 35 cm. The number of tubes is 137. a. Calculate the shell-and-tube size heat transfer coefficients. b. Assuming proper fouling factors, calculate the length of the condenser. c. Space available is 6 m. Is the design acceptable?
Explanation / Answer
Go with log mean tempereture diffrence method and try to find heat trancefer coefficient
Then try go with the design concept of condensor to find length and feasibility
