Question

A water storage tank located on a larege dairy farm has a storage capacity of 0.1 ML. The average rate of water consumption from this tank is 6.25 kL per day, every day. The farmer refills the tank (overnight) every 14 days, using a pump that takes water from a nearby river. The top of the tank is 53m (vertically) above the level of the river. (Assume g = 9.81 m/s^2).

i) How much water (on average) is used by the farm in fourteen days

ii) How much energy / work is required to refill the tank with this quantity of water from the river (assume no energy losses)

iii) If the pump an piping system has an efficiency of 0.9, what input of power rating is required for the pump to refill the tank in 6 hours

Explanation / Answer

vmultiply the length, width, and depth of the water in the aquarium. 1 cu metre is 1,000 litres (where All three length Width and Height in meter) Lets say depth of the aquariumis at 0.5 metres and the rectangle around the pond is 3 metres long x 2 metres wide. The volume is calculated as follows: 3.0 x 2.0 x 0.5 x 50/100 = 3.0 cu.metres = 3.0 x 1,000 = 3,000 litres if the aquarium fill only 50% then the water volume is 3000 /2 = 1500 litres
