Four 1.66 V cells are connected in series to 10 ohm lightbulb. If the resulting current is 0.28 A, what is the internal resistance of each cell, assuming they are indentical and neglecting the resistance of the wires? Four 1.66 V cells are connected in series to 10 ohm lightbulb. If the resulting current is 0.28 A, what is the internal resistance of each cell, assuming they are indentical and neglecting the resistance of the wires? If the resulting current is 0.28 A, what is the internal resistance of each cell, assuming they are indentical and neglecting the resistance of the wires?Explanation / Answer
First, we will calculate the total resistance(R) using following relation,
V = IR where I is current, V is voltage
(4 x 1.66) = 0.28 x R
R = 23.714 ohm
Since resistance of the lightbulb is 10 ohms,
so, r' = 23.714 - 10 = 13.714 ohm
Since four cells are identical, therefore,
Internal resistance of each cell, r = 13.714 / 4 = 3.428 ohm
