Question
2. If you have the sequences from several genomes that range from higher eukaryotes (plants and mammals) to yeast, and you would like find genes related to a globin gene that you have recently identifies. How would you find all of the related globin genes across the whole spectrum of eukaryotic species?
You have three tools available to you: BLAST, MSA, and a PSSM generator. The BLAST software can accept query sequences as a FASTA file or a PSSM and will search all of the eukaryotic geneomes in which you are interested. How will you know when you have found all of the globin genes that are even remotely similar?
Explanation / Answer
Firstly we go for NCBI then in nucleotide database seach for globin gene( i.e-beta globin gene of human)
then copy the accessio no. of the particular gene, then Open BLAST in next tab
paste the accession no. in given option, then run BLAST
the hits will appear from maximum similarity to the minimum similarity , 100% identity score shows exact same sequnce and then decreasing similarity on wards.
