A final written project is required that will address meal planning, nutritional requirements, and special populations. Each section should be created as if it will be given directly to the client and should be clear enough for a client to follow.

Section 1:

General meal plan for using a 1 day example (3 meals and 2

snacks) for a 2000 calorie/day diet.

Before starting any diet plan, or before giving instructions to the client, we should be capable enough to educate the patient what is a balanced diet. Because the client has the complete right to know what his/her dietician is recommending him/her and why.

Balanced Diet

A balanced diet is a diet that contains the proper proportions of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water that are necessary to maintain a good health.

These nutrients are derived through a combination of 5 major food groups- fruits and vegetables, cereals and pulses, meat and dairy products and fats and oils. With this, it matters how much you should intake and in what portions ?

Carbohydrates

The truth about carbs may be hard to digest but the nutritionists say they are an important part of an healthy diet. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy. Half of your total calories of the day should come from carbs. The problem is that we emphasize more on the refined carbs in the form of breads, biscuits, white rice and wheat flour. We forget that carbs come from other healthier sources like whole grains which come in the form of brown rice,millets and oats that have a higher nutritive value. These are also great sources of fiber.

Proteins

According to nutrionists your diet should contain 30-35% of proteins daily. This could be in the form of milk, eggs, pulses, leafy greens, white meat or sprouts.

For females : 55 grams/ day

Fats

Fats provide energy, store vitamins, and synthesize hormones. The healthy diet should consist of 20% of fats in the poper diet chart
