Question

3.-9 points GioCP2 21 P042 My Notes Ask Your The switch in the figure below is open for a very long time and then closed at t=0. (Assume v=6.0v and R2=580 ?.) L 4.5 mH 800 2 (a) What is the current through R1 and through R2 immediately after the switch is closed? current through R current through R2 mA MA (b) What is the voltage across the inductor immediately after the switch is closed? (c) After the switch is closed for a very long time, what is the current through R1, the current through R2, and the voltage across L? current through R1 current through R2 voltage across L MA mA (d) The switch is now opened at t=Open-what are the magnitude and direction of the current through R1 immediately after topen? MA (e) What is the voltage across L just after topen?

Explanation / Answer

a)

As soon as the switch is closed , the inductor behave as open circuit , hence no current flows through R2

i2 = current in R2 = 0 mA

i1 = V/R1 = 6/800 = 7.5 mA

b)

VL = Vr1 = V = 6 Volts

c)

i1 = current in R1 = V/R1 = 6/800 = 7.5 mA

i2 = current in R2 = V/R2 = 6/580 = 10.3 mA

VL = 0 Volts

d)

i1 = VL/(R1 + R2) = 6/(800 + 580) = 4.3 mA

direction : Upward

e)

VL = V = 6 Volts
