Question
The drawing shows an outstretched arm (0.61m) that is parallel to the floor. The arm is pulling downward against the ring attached to a pulley system, in order to hold the 98-N weight stationary. To pull the arm downward, the latisimus dorsi muscle applies the force M in the drawing, at a point that is 0.069m from the shoulder joint (axis of rotation) and oriented at an angle 29 degrees (below -x axis). The arm has a weight of 47N and a center of gravity that is located 0.28m from the shoulder joint. Find magnitude of M.
So I got that Fx=-Mcos29, which doesn't make sense because then M would be zero.
Then I got that Fy=-Msin29-Warm+Wweight which comes out to M=105N
Then I got that =-M*lm - Warm*larm + Wweight*lweight, which comes out to M=675N
What is the correct answer??
Explanation / Answer
I also got your answer using the sum of forces in the y direction, getting M = 105 N
you should be able to find this using the sum of torques is zero as well
your first term in your torque equation is missing a sin 29
