Question
A. A small plastic sphere has a negative charge –Q uniformly distributed over its surface. Draw a vector showing the electric field at location A due to the plastic sphere.
Now a neutral glass block is placed between the plastic sphere and location
B. Show the charge distribution in and/or on the glass block, using the diagrammatic conventions discussed in the textbook.
C.
larger, smaller, or that same as it was in part (a), before the glass block was added? Explain in detail, using diagrams.
A. A small plastic sphere has a negative charge ?Q uniformly distributed over its surface. Draw a vector showing the electric field at location A due to the plastic sphere. Now a neutral glass block is placed between the plastic sphere and location B. Show the charge distribution in and/or on the glass block, using the diagrammatic conventions discussed in the textbook. Is the net electric field at location A larger, smaller, or that same as it was in part (a), before the glass block was added? Explain in detail, using diagrams.Explanation / Answer
A)The negative charge on the sphere acts as a sink and electric forces will point towards the point. B)As like charges repel and opposite attracts so on the left side of the rod there will be positive charges lined up and and on the right will be the negative charges. C) The net charge will actually be the same at point A because the glass rod arranges the charges in such a way that the net electric charge is zero so it doesn't change the field at all. The electric field will still pass straight through the glass rod like it isn't there at all.
